This is what the SF Examiner had to say about what just happened to me.
Friday was strange. at 11:30 AM the entire building was called in to a Polycom video conference. Walking into our newly renovated conference room, I noticed the huge oak table was gone and had been replaced by more chairs to accommodate for more people. Being the joker of the group I quietly and sarcastically that this was going to be our last day and that we should prepare to party like rockstars that night. In our group we take a joke and will run with it for hours. Well. How horribly right we all were. About 10 minutes into the meeting after all the "congratulations" and pats on the back for a job well done Zemekis himself spoke to the group. The producers, head of artistic development, HR all choked back tears as they told us the story of how they fought Disney to the end to keep the company alive. Putting things together based on rumors of layoffs within the company, that may have been a last ditch effort to prove that we were still a good investment. Disney has allowed us to complete our current film and has apparently put together some kind of severance package. Most of us speculate that the new Disney management and the economy to be the prime suspects. We won't know any further details until Monday, I suspect that really means the middle of next week.
Well IMD. It's been a strange, fast, fun, hard, interesting and awe inspiring ride. I had good times and bad. 2 well 2 and a half movies under my belt. What's next?
